EMMA MANCHESTER

NATURAL DYE

Emma Manchester lives in a homesteading intentional community in the Ottawa Valley.  She takes care of a big garden with dye plants that she's been tending for the past five years including a large bed of madder, two types of Japanese indigo, a pokeberry patch and various others including weld, dyer's coreopsis, and bronze fennel.  She is passionate about natural dyeing and has a great respect for the dye plants and for the traditions and practices that have surrounded their use; she is always eager to learn more, and to teach what she knows about this craft.  She has a particular interest in painting/printing on fabrics with natural dyes, and is working on mastering her fermented indigo dye vat.
