FOLK SCHOOL is dedicated to classes, workshops, and demonstrations
in traditional crafts, traditional Eastern European singing & dancing.
We specialize in Ukrainian Eastern Egg decorating ("pysanky"), printmaking, bookbinding, Ukrainian embroidery, and weaving, and host a diversity of workshops led by various skilled artists and artisans from Ukraine, and across Turtle Island.
Some of the craft workshops we have hosted in the past include: Reeled Dolls, Folk Icon Painting, Straw Mobiles, Petrykivka folk painting, Crafting of a Traditional Ukrainian Shirt, and Papercutting ("Vytynanky") to name just a few.
We also connect people with learning opportunities in the traditional music & dance of Eastern Europe, hosting masterclasses in Ukrainian polyphonic singing, as well as various European folk dance workshops, including Polish, Ukrainian, Hungarian, and Balfolk, all with live music.
Most of our classes take place at the "Kosa studio" at 4 Bellwoods Ave., Toronto and at St. Vladimir Institute, 620 Spadina Ave., Toronto. Please take note of the location of your class, as sometimes the locations switch. We also host masterclasses and group workshops in schools, community centres, retirement homes, and festivals across Ontario.
