2023 Melanka

Event is sold out

Pricing (per person)

This is all you can afford to give, or choose to give; it will cover the basic costs of the event.

You can afford to pay this- This will help support the event by offsetting the costs for those who can’t pay as much to attend.

You have a higher income/means and would like to make a contribution that will help sustain Folk Camp and the Kosa community in a larger way.

Zabava (dance party) starts at 9PM.

If you have the means, please consider donating to Folk Camp to support our organization by purchasing a membership or making a one time donation. After you’ve paid for Melanka, click on the donate link. Any amount is always appreciated.

You are invited to our annual “Kosa Melanka" for the end of the holidays- Sat. Jan. 28 at the Belarusian Orthodox Church, 524 St. Clarens ave. in Toronto's west end. Come celebrate with us! It's our annual tradition of gathering for a "Schedriy Vechir" (generous evening) feast, singing of carols, dancing to traditional folk tunes, and general melanka/mummery mayhem and fun ~ a “Rozkoliada”!
Doors open at 6PM. Party until midnight.
Come dressed in your festive folkwear.

We’ll be pitching in all our energies towards sharing in a beautiful celebration of life and traditions, while ushering in the coming growing season with prayers and song (the winter counterpart to our summer camp harvest) in community.

This year we will be having a relatively small gathering, to keep it cozy, and limited by the capacity of the hall, so we will not be selling tickets publicly, or promoting it. And it will be a potluck dinner! (SEE BELOW)

It is absolutely “family friendly” and we aim to be as accessible as possible. It’s sliding scale ($25, $45, $65- choose what you can afford) and we ask that if you are able, you give more. This helps everyone attend, regardless of their income or financial means. If any funds are left over they will go towards future needs in the Folk Camp organization.

And as always, if you can pitch in to help make food* (Fri night), decorate (Fri night), help with set up or take down, bar, silent auction/merch table, or anything else, please reach out!

*we will have a borscht and varenyky work bee on Friday night 5-9pm. If you wish to join, that will count as your potluck contribution. :) You will still need to purchase a ticket and indicate in the potluck sign up that you are joining the Fri “borscht party”. You can also email kosa.kolektiv[at]gmail.com to follow up.

About the food at Melanka

Our feast this year will be potluck! You get to contribute to the delicious spread of our generous table.

We are specifically looking for:

  • Baked chicken/pork

  • Baked fish

  • Hearty salads (eg. potato salad, bean salad, beet salad or “shuba”(layered pickled herring salad)

  • Cabbage rolls (with meat or meatless)

  • Varenyky (dumplings with potato or sauerkraut)

  • Mushrooms/ mushroom sauce

  • Accoutrements: pickles, sauerkrauts, relishes, sour cream, butter!

  • Desserts!

  • Uzvar (stewed fruit/compote)

  • Kolach (“challah”) ie. braided bread for our ceremonial table

We encourage you to collaborate on your contributions within your family/friend group so that we have less dishes on the table (eg. bring one double sized dish as a couple).
