INSTRUMENTAL - EUROPEAN FOLK DANCE TUNES

Do you play an acoustic instrument? Guitars, fiddles, accordions, mandolins, and whatever else you can think of are all welcome at this workshop! Together we will be learning simple folk dance tunes from different parts of Europe - from the southeastern coast of Ukraine to the northwestern coast of France. We will be learning to play these tunes as a band, making arrangements and learning both the melodies and grooves specific to different dances, and will be accompanying the evening dances. You will also have the option to play for the dance class if you so choose. The ability to read music is not necessary - the music will be taught by ear and sheet music will only be provided if absolutely necessary (in keeping with the folk oral tradition!) While the music is not difficult, a basic ability to play your instrument is required as this class is focused on repertoire and ensemble playing, not instrument learning!
