Folk Camp Canada (FCC) Call for Applications- Board of Directors

Become part of the passionate team that showcases and connects people with the folk arts, music, and land based traditions of Ukraine & Eastern Europe in the Canadian context. 

Our Mission:

Engage people in meaningful artistic and creative practices rooted in the ancient folk traditions of Ukraine and Eastern Europe 

Cultivate greater cultural awareness and popularisation of Ukrainian and Eastern European folk music, dance, and craft

Foster a growing community and network built around learning, sharing & embracing traditional arts & heritage folkways in the diverse Canadian cultural landscape

FCC currently has five positions open, one of which is a Treasurer. We are looking to engage people of all backgrounds who want to share their skills to assist with advancing & promoting traditional Eastern European arts.

People who:

  • Align with our mission, vision and values and principles.

  • Act in a position of trust for the community.

  • Commit to responsible effective governance.

  • Become an organisational champion, active advocate and ambassador.

  • Promote excellence.

  • Assist with identifying and securing financial resources and partnerships.

  • Possess a strong knowledge of the Ukrainian and/or Eastern European community across Canada and/or an understanding of and connection with the broader folk arts and traditional/ heritage crafts/arts community in Canada.

Expectations:

Apply professional and/or volunteer financial, legal, cultural, business, governance, or entrepreneurial skills and experience working alongside the Executive Director to help guide FCC to achieve its mission;

Contribute to the Board’s work in overseeing, monitoring and evaluating operations, including fundraising and financial management;

Attend all Board meetings, approx. 10 monthly meetings 1.5-2 hours long, 2 of which must be in-person (in Toronto) and our Annual General Meeting held in November (in Toronto). Most meetings are held virtually online.

Participate on one Board Committee;  Governance Committee - meets quarterly, to review by-laws, policies and assesses Board's own effectiveness; Marketing and Outreach - meets monthly; Fundraising, meets monthly; 

Represent the organisation at special events, minimum two events per year.

Appointments to the Board are for two years and extended in 2 year increments.

Please note that these positions are voluntary and there is no remuneration for service.
